La Palma como destino ciclista

La Palma as cycling destination

Our little island is just as good- or in many aspects probably better- than most popular cycling destinations like Tenerife or Mallorca. At the same time we estimate that the island gets 1/100 of the cycling visitors of the other islands. Why is that? A mystery, really. One possible reason is it is quite demanding. Being the steepest island in the world by some accounts it is not the best for novices. The other reason may be the limited offer of flights and accommodation. Third, the weather here is just a little bit more unpredictable than on, say, south Tenerife. But other than that it’s a dream come true: incredible variety. Empty roads, especially in the north. Beautiful landscapes (unlike south Tenerife!). Charming little towns.

It is now possible to rent locally all kinds of bicycles, including electric ones. So climbing to Roque de los Muchachos at 2426m from sea level is accessible for everyone.

There are multiple roads and trails for road cycling, gravel cycling and mountain biking. La Palma is the best kept secret around so I recommend you come here instead of where the crowds go. We are cyclists ourselves so we can recommend the best routes and we have good place to store your bike.
